The Acclaim: Critics went gaga for the latest mainline Star Wars movie upon release, calling it an expectation-defying delight girded by great performances, stunning action and dazzling visuals.
Why Everyone Will Hate It: Obviously, a lot of people already hate The Last Jedi, evidenced by the major fan backlash to the film's various twists and turns, and the controversial characterisation of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in particular.
The problem is, the debate about The Last Jedi's merits - or lack thereof, if you're so inclined - is so tiresome and played-out that it's actually hurting the movie even for those who genuinely like it.
At their best, Star Wars movies are glorious phenomena that get everyone talking, but The Last Jedi just brought out the worst in the fandom, regardless of your own opinion, suffocating the movie in a toxic cloud of negativity.
