7 Actors Who Tried To Be Directors (And Totally Failed)
7. Steven Seagal
Steven Seagal has never exactly been known for his acting prowess, and throughout the years has mostly been limited to undemanding action vehicles such as the Under Siege series. In 1994, however, the action star directed his own starring project, On Deadly Ground, an environmentally-minded actioner that, despite its noble intent, was a flop with both audiences and critics, failing to make back its budget and earning a distinguished 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the unanimous pasting the movie received from reviewers, some did at least appreciate Seagal's attempts to tell a more thoughtful, considered story than in most of his movies (the bad guys are an oil company), though its noble intentions were offset by the usual array of inane dialogue and gratuitous explosions. The film was nominated for 6 Razzie awards (including Worst Actor, Picture and Director for Seagal), with the actor-director "winning" Worst Director. Unlike some other entries on this list, at least Seagal had the good sense to leave it to the professionals after this single flop.
