7 Awesome James Bond Fan Theories That Actually Improve The Films

7. Raoul Silva Is M's Son

Javier Bardem's sinister character in Skyfall is an intriguing one, but you aren't actually told all that much about him over the course of the film. His past is hinted at in various passing remarks, but for the most part he remains a villainous enigma. Bardem's character's name, Raoul Silva, is an anagram of "A Rival Soul", which is appropriate given his competitive and somewhat arduous relationship with Bond, but what about his relationship with M? He sends her the mysterious message "Think On Your Sins", which the most eagle-eyed viewers will point out to be a possible anagram of "Your Son Isn't In HK". The following part of the theory does require some quite presumptuous leaps, but the idea is that this message implies her son is him. Upon her arrival in Scotland with Bond, M says "Orphans always make the best recruits," and her coldness in making split-second decisions regarding her agents' lives is bolstered by her remark, so what if Silva, as another of her orphan recruits, was in fact her own adopted son? Given the subtle hints M gives, it isn't that unrealistic an idea, and certainly provides a good amount of much-needed background to the two characters.
