This is another Jason Statham action movie beatdown but this time he's not on the receiving end. In Homefront, Statham portrays yet another literary protagonist i in the shape of Phil Broker, who is a graduate of the old school of weapon's grade family men trying to keep his head down and get on with family life. After his daughter gets in an altercation with a school bully, local hillbillies take things a little too far and push Broker to the edge. One of the weirdest casting choices in the movie was that of James Franco as Gator who's supposed to be the "villain" of the flick. James Franco is someone we recognize popping up in R-rated comedies, indie movies and sometimes a superhero movie. He's not a person that typically plays second fiddle to an action star like Jason Statham, but the man does know how to surprise. He slipped into the role of Gator easy and made the ambitious hillbilly easy to hate as he pushed Broker's buttons and proved he was willing to put a child in danger if he felt that he had to. The final fight scene happens on a bridge cut off from the police. Gator has taken Broker's daughter and his only card left to play is to go headstrong and full-force, and he beats Gator until his opponent is barely breathing. Gator tries to pull some moves, but he doesn't land a single punch. This action movie beatdown makes the list because of the righteousness of the act and the buildup - it's a moment of satisfaction like few others this year.
