7 Best And 7 Worst Releases On Netflix In April
8. Best - Rear Window
Rear Window is the first of two Alfred Hitchcock classics on Netflix this month.
Jimmy Stewart plays a house-bound photographer from the days when paparazzi weren't all car-chasing freelancers who made a living from other people's misery.
Together with his girlfriend Grace Kelly, he investigates a series of mysterious events in the block of flats outside his apartment. The rest is cinematic history.
Rear Window is one of Hitchcock's greatest works for a whole bunch of reasons, not least of all the complex simplicity with which he delivers it. The whole set was custom-built and consists of thirty-one apartments, each with electricity and running water. The courtyard measures a staggering 185 feet long, while the sound was organically recorded on-set with no cut-ins or overdubs. Who needs CGI when you've got carpenters?
Whether it'll be your first watch or your fiftieth, for a thrilling masterclass in film-making, take a closer look at Rear Window on Netflix from April 13th.
