7 Best Henry Cavill Roles To Date

Behind the muscles and the moustache, what are Henry Cavill's best performances so far?

Man Of Steel Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill has made waves in cinema over the last decade, not least because of his turn and the controversy surrounding his role as Superman in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and the ill-fated Justice League.

He has shown that he has extreme dedication when it comes to roles, evident in his muscular physique but also, when examined more closely, in the research that he puts into his roles. He is not simply the beefcake to end all beefcakes - he is in fact a talented actor.

Rising to prominence in Showtime's The Tudors, he starred in that role for three years before really making his entrance to cinema. He would bounce around in a couple of starring roles before landing Superman, which would propel him into the stratosphere.

Ever the gentleman, in many interviews he displays a genial persona, very open to discussing the work he has done on his films but also the work of the other members of the team. He credits directors and writers for what they bring, rather than allowing interviewers to simply laud his own skills.

While he might be most well known for the work he has committed to bodybuilding for his many physical roles, Cavill has demonstrated a wide range of skills, best shown in the films on this list.

8. Honourable Mention - Hellraiser: Hellworld

Well, everyone has to start somewhere, right?

Back in 2005, Henry Cavill, still two years shy of his starring role in The Tudors, would sign on to do what so many actors in Hollywood must while starting out on their career: appear in a low budget, horror sequel.

It is a time-honoured right of passage in the industry it seems, with many, many examples of other well known faces taking up the challenge along the way.

The Hellraiser series of films are one of the gorier and more disturbing franchises, though unfortunately Hellraiser: Hellworld would not be counted as one of the better entries. It was in fact the eighth movie, filmed alongside the ninth simply to assuage certain permissions to film in Romania.

Odds are, by the time you reach Hellworld, you're either on board with the extreme Hellraiser films or you aren't. Therefore, Henry Cavill's star turn here probably won't make too many ripples in the world!

That said, it is one of the more brutal death scenes of Cavill's career so far. He is impaled (Snyder clearly took notes) and then left hanging on a giant hook, dying after a few moments.

Welcome to Cavill's best performances!
