7 Box Office Records Already Destroyed By Jurassic World

7. Biggest IMAX Opening Weekend Ever

Watching genetically-engineered dinosaurs cause chaos is something that needs to be viewed on the biggest screen possible, so it comes as little surprise that both domestically, overseas and worldwide, Jurassic World enjoyed the highest-grossing opening weekend in IMAX history. Even more impressive is that the movie managed to take the crown from three different movies that have previously held each record.

Jurassic World broke the domestic IMAX record set by The Dark Knight Rises directed by Christopher Nolan, a well-known proponent of the large-screen format, earning $20.6m compared to the $19m of the closing chapter of the Dark Knight Trilogy. Overseas, the movie smashed Transformers: Age of Extinction's $16.7m debut to set an IMAX record of $23.5m, proving that dinosaurs remain more popular than giant alien robots.

If that wasn't enough, the worldwide opening weekend record for an IMAX release was completely obliterated by Jurassic World, which trampled all over Iron Man 3's $28.6m when it debuted to an incredible $44.1m, just one in a string of Marvel's box office milestones that Jurassic World is leaving in its wake.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
