7 Box Office Records Already Destroyed By Jurassic World
6. Highest Domestic Second Weekend Gross
For two weeks in a row, box office analysts greatly underestimated Jurassic World. The movie's debut blew even the most optimistic predictions completely out of the water, and through its second weekend early estimates pegged its total at a not-insignificant $102m, which in turn made it only the second movie in history to earn more than $100m during its second weekend in theaters, behind The Avengers.
However, when the official reports came in it turned out that Jurassic World had claimed yet another box office record from Marvel Studios; the movie had actually earned $106.6m during its second frame, which was good enough to secure top spot from Iron Man and company.
To put this impressive feat into perspective; The Avengers came burdened with four years of rapidly-building anticipation and multiple setup movies, whereas Jurassic World was the delayed follow-up to a disappointingly workmanlike sequel in a franchise that hadn't been relevant in years.
