7 Box Office Records Already Destroyed By Jurassic World
1. What Next?
Besides the inevitable sequel? Presumably yet more box office domination.
During the movie's second weekend, it became clear that Jurassic World has huge repeat viewing potential with audiences, given that it managed to set the record for biggest domestic second weekend ever despite the competition from Pixar's Inside Out, which in earning $90.4m itself scored the highest opening weekend ever for a completely original property.
Given the way Jurassic World continues to steamroll over box office records on an almost daily basis, it seems a sure bet to earn $1.5bn at the very least, and could even get within touching distance of $2bn if it holds up well enough internationally. Although with the amount of direct competition hitting the multiplex over the next few weeks there's every chance that it's almost unstoppable earning power could slow down considerably.
Of course, we need to mention Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It's easy to forget that despite Jurassic World obliterating box office records across the globe over the last couple of weeks, JJ Abrams' hugely-anticipated movie could eclipse them all. If any movie this year has the potential to break even more records than Jurassic World then it's the Force Awakens, which analysts are already predicting will join the currently James Cameron-exclusive club for $2bn movies.
