1. Venom
Now, hear me out! Eddie Brock is as far from C-List as you can get. Hes one of the most recognizable super villains in comic history. He has been translated to screen before, no matter how many people want to forget that. Besides, Eddie Brock works best as a villain, not a hero, and certainly not as the focal point of an entire movie. Which is why Im not talking about Eddie Brock. Recently, Flash Thompson has taken hold of the symbiote, and has been running around taking down super villains. If you havent read the newest Venom comics, you should. Theyre excellent. The concept alone is great, Flash Thompson, the bully who tormented Peter Parker and worshipped Spider-Man, follows in his heros shoes after being part of a government project meant to tame the Venom symbiote for the military. If he wears the suit for more than 48 hours, he loses his mind. However, without the symbiote, he cant walk. He gains the powers of his favorite hero, but also deals with the responsibilities of such a terrible power. Hes hunted down by villains and heroes alike, including certain individuals who want to use the symbiote for their own ends. Its a great, cinematic story in and of itself. There is another reason. Sony wants to expand Spider-Mans universe. By giving Flash Thompson, an established character in Marc Webbs new series, the costume, they can expand the universe in a realistic fashion, introduce new dimensions to the story, and be able to explore the darker side of Spideys world. While Id prefer Eddie Brock as Spideys nemesis, Thompson might be necessary for the franchises future success. Some superheroes are cultural icons, others fall under everyones radar. These guys have the potential to be huge hits, if studios take a little risk for the little guys.
