7 Comic Book Movie Endings That Really Needed A Sequel

4. Batman Returns

Over 25 years on, Batman Returns remains something of an underrated entry into the comic book movie genre. Too dark and weird for Warner Bros, who wanted to move the character into a more family friendly, merchandisable territory, Burton left the franchise after this and its follow-up brought in both a different director and a new Batman.

How great it would've been, though, to see Burton round out a Batman trilogy, or perhaps - as the ending even more directly sets up - a Catwoman movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer. Her take on the femme feline is one of the all-time great comic book movie performances, and surely would've worked a lot better than the Halle Berry version we eventually got.

Even just a straight sequel, though, would've been great: Michael Keaton is the best big screen version of Bruce Wayne, and was at the top of his game, much like Burton himself, and there were breadcrumbs to build upon with the likes of Catwoman and Harvey Dent, alongside plenty of then unintroduced villains.

Instead, we got Batman Forever.
