7 Comic Book Movie Endings That Really Needed A Sequel

1. The Dark Knight

Right, yes, The Dark Knight does have a sequel. However, while The Dark Knight Rises rounds out Christopher Nolan's Bat-Trilogy, it is thematically and narratively much closer to Batman Begins than it is the second entry. Sure there are some references, but the way it ties back around to the 2005 movie means The Dark Knight is left feeling more like a standalone chapter.

Of course, this is due to the tragic passing of Heath Ledger before The Dark Knight was even released, but the movie's open ending with regards to Batman himself and the Joker heading to prison leaves things enticingly setup for a very different sequel to the one we got. One early plan would've seen The Joker in court in the third movie, which would play out alongside the full transformation of Harvey Dent into Two-Face.

While Dent died at the end of The Dark Knight, seeing Heath Ledger's Clown Prince of Crime in a courtroom drama would've been fascinating, as would seeing Batman/Bruce Wayne in the more immediate aftermath of the movie.
