7 Up-And-Coming Directors Attached To Huge Hollywood Movies
1. Colin Trevorrow
What Put Him On The Map: 2012's Safety Not Guaranteed What He's On Now: 2015's Jurassic WorldAn unexpected classified ad (itself a joke) lends premise to one of the most unexpectedly heart-warming and unique films of 2012, pleasing both critics and audiences alike. For his next trick, Colin Trevorrow landed an equally unexpected sophomore gig: directing Jurassic World, the depressingly-titled 2015 entry into the Jurassic Park franchise. Based on the 1990 novel by the late Michael Crichton, the original Jurassic Park went on to be Hollywood juggernaut Steven Spielberg's highest worldwide box office earner ever and ushered in a new era of visual FX. For anyone in their early 30's, JP is quite possibly the first movie we remember seeing in the cinema (as it is for me) and a staple of our growing up. In short, Jurassic Park was a big. damn. deal. For me, that makes this final entry the most nerve-racking of the bunch. I adored Safety, but I'm nervous about anything hoping to add to the legacy of the JP franchise, especially something as embattled as Jurassic Park 4 has been, and I'm nervous about the guy who made the least expensive film on this list taking control of what could realistically be the most expensive film on this list. For now I'm staying cautiously optimistic that Jurassic World will surprise and delight me much the same way the first film did; I hope it finds that elusive blockbuster formula. That, and possibly a new title...'WANTED: Someone to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. You'll get paid after we get back. You must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before.'
