7 Directors Who Went To Extraordinary Lengths To Fix Past Mistakes

5. Michael Haneke Made A Shot-For-Shot Remake Of Funny Games

Michael Haneke intended for his 1997 effort Funny Games to be set in the United States but, after he was unable to secure enough funding, was forced to set it in Austria instead, and the film failed to find much of an audience.

A decade later, and with the director having carved out a much bigger reputation thanks to the likes of The Piano Teacher and Caché, he decided to have another go at the Funny Games story, which sees a family at a lakehouse victimised by intruders.

This time around he DID set the movie in America though, with a new cast and crew, including Naomi Watts and Tim Roth. However, he still used the same house to shoot in, with the 2007 version is a shot-for-shot remake of the 1997 one, and it didn't get a much better reception either.
