7 Early Signs Of The McConaissance

2. Tropic Thunder

In a film that's not exactly wanting for incredibly famous dramatic actors being very silly indeed, McConaughey's larger-than-life, Tango-tanned Hollywood agent Rick Peck still manages to cut a manic figure amongst Robert Downey Jr as the ultimate method actor, Nick Nolte as a handless Vietnam vet, and Tom Cruise doing his best to distract from his various PR disasters by putting on a bald cap - not to mention Ben Stiller going "full retard". Whilst Stiller's out-of-his-depth action star Tugg Speedman enters increasingly desperate situations as the war-movie-within-a-movie (also confusingly called Tropic Thunder) gives way to actual jungle warfare, McConaughey channels presumably every asshole agent he's ever come across in the California hills as the curly-coiffed, pastel-polo-shirted, bluetooth-headset-toting hero who manages to put down his Wiimote long enough to make sure that his client...gets TiVO. No matter what.
