7 Great Harry Potter Plot Twists That Don’t Get Enough Credit
6. Lupin Is A Werewolf – The Prisoner Of Azkaban
There are so many plot twists during the final act of The Prisoner of Azkaban. Sirius is revealed to be innocent, Scabbers turns out to be Peter Pettigrew, Hermione unveils the Time-Turner, and Harry realises he was the one who saved himself and Sirius from the dementors.
As such, the revelation that Lupin is actually a werewolf is often overshadowed. And given Lupin’s kind temperament and fatherly affection towards Harry, this plot twist is not easy to predict.
Yet the clues are there. When covering for Lupin, Snape purposefully sets the class an essay on werewolves in the hope someone will realise the truth. And during Harry’s first Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson, Lupin’s boggart is described as a 'silvery-white orb’.
What's more, this plot twist also forms the foundation for the Marauders’ backstory. When James, Sirius, and Peter found out about their friend’s condition, the three of them learnt how to become Animagi so they could comfort him during his monthly transformations.
