7 Great Harry Potter Plot Twists That Don’t Get Enough Credit

4. Bathilda Is Nagini – The Deathly Hallows

After visiting the grave of Lily and James Potter in Godric’s Hollow, Harry and Hermione stumble across Bathilda Bagshot (the famous magical historian) and follow her into her house.

It’s immediately apparent that all is not well, but when experiencing this moment for the first time (both in the book and the movie), you’d never guess that Bathilda is, in fact, Voldemort’s snake in disguise.

In essence, the strength of this plot twist is how well it’s built up. Bathilda’s dark and crooked house wouldn’t feel out of place in a horror movie, and the rising tension as Harry follows her upstairs is expertly done in both the original and the adaptation.

But possibly because this twist is quite short and not really relevant to the main plotline, it doesn’t often receive much recognition from fans. And this is also compounded by the fact The Deathly Hallows contains many other plot twists which are far more essential to Harry’s journey.
