7 Great Harry Potter Plot Twists That Don’t Get Enough Credit
3. Krum Takes Hermione To The Yule Ball – The Goblet Of Fire
No one saw this twist coming. During the build-up to the Yule Ball, Hermione informs her two friends she is going to attend the event and that she has a partner for the night. Naturally, Ron is quite sceptical about her claim, and as such, he’s rather surprised when he sees Hermione arm in arm with Viktor Krum.
What’s cool about this twist – which isn’t really addressed in the movie – is how Hermione and Krum meet. Despite his global reputation as the greatest Seeker in the world, Krum isn’t vain at all.
He doesn’t enjoy the limelight very much and he regularly uses the Hogwarts library to avoid crowds. This, of course, is where he meets Hermione.
This twist is also a key part of Hermione’s character development. She really comes out of her shell during the Yule Ball and presents a more relaxed side of her personality that’s completely adverse to the bossy know-it-all she was back in The Philosopher’s Stone.
The Yule Ball also sheds light on Ron’s feelings as well. Though he claims to be angry because Hermione is with someone from Durmstrang, it’s obvious the true source of his anger is jealousy.
