1. Macaulay Culkin Jacobs Ladder
This is extremely biased and personal, because Jacobs Ladder is my favorite movie of all time: it has elements that Im drawn to, mostly its 1970s post-Vietnam set piece and the psychological aspect that requires at least two viewings. Its beautifully tragic and horrific, serving a great companion piece to An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge. Culkins role in this is uncredited and while this came out the same year as Home Alone, its obvious that this was filmed when he was a bit younger. Culkin plays the youngest son to Tim Robbins character Jacob Singer, who is still mourning the loss of the boy who was hit by a car while out riding his bike. His presence is known throughout the entire movie, the first we see of him is only in a picture that brings Robbins to tears, and every time after that is only in memory. Its obvious that Culkins relation to his father in the movie is strong, possibly stronger than any relationship Robbins has with anyone in the film. The boys death hangs over him throughout the entire film and is one of the few people who brought happiness to Robbins in his life. The end of the movie is what cements the characters importance in Jacobs journey but giving that away would be deploring anyone who hasnt seen the movie the opportunity to experience on their own.
