7 Greatest Ever Star Wars References In Pop Culture

6. That '70s Show

This one is obvious, since That 70's Show is littered with countless references to, and discussions about Star Wars, and the lead Eric, played by Topher Grace, has serious nerd credit thanks to his own personal dedication to the property. For those of you who don't know, Grace created a fan-edit that turned the Star Wars prequels into one movie, using footage from all three prequels, some music from The Clone Wars television series and even C-3PO dialogue from audio-book recordings. He even created a new opening text crawl to set up his version of the story. The result is an 85-minute movie titled Star Wars: Episode III.5: The Editor Strikes Back, which is hailed as, "probably the best possible edit of the Star Wars prequels given the footage released and available." Hopefully, we will get to view this one day. Okay, onto the task at hand. I am just going to run through a few references from the show, as there are mountains of them. In "Young Man's Blues", a reference is made to the bounty hunter Boba Fett - presumably, since the show is set in the 1970s, this reference could only be to The Star Wars Holiday Special, which marked Fett's first appearance - and that wins for the most obscure reference of my list. Also, at the very end of the episode, Red tries to teach Eric the names of some common tools, while Eric in return tries to teach Red the names of the central characters of Star Wars. This is easily one of the greatest sequences in the whole series. And finally, in "Baby Don't Do It", Eric and Donna talk to the pastor of the church about getting married. Donna says that Eric likes to talk about Star Wars. The pastor says, "Star Wars, the greatest movie of all time. It's hard not to talk about it", and we see he's being played by Lando himself, Billy Dee Williams.
