7 Greatest Ever Star Wars References In Pop Culture

5. Spaceballs

The entire movie is a parody of Star Wars. Luke and Han are combined into one character, named Lonestar, Princess Vespa replaces Leia, Dark Helmet takes the role of a grotesque Darth Vader with a comically over-sized helmet, and Yoda is replaced by Yogurt, a merchandising expert, and master of "the Schwartz." You're basically looking at a silly exaggeration of the original series: for instance, in addition to light-speed Dark Helmet's flagship has Ludicrous Speed. The key to the film's success is that everything is familiar, but pushed through an absurd filter, so the Death Star is replaced by a Statue of Liberty-shaped spaceship that steals the air from planet's atmospheres, and instead of light-sabers the characters wield rings with energy beams, and these rings also focus the power of the Schwartz. To list all of the references would be ridiculously time-consuming, given that the entire thing is an absurd love-letter to the original franchise. All that remains is to advise you to watch this film: it is a perfect example of satire and parody, plus it has an amazing all-star cast from the world of comedy and beyond.
