7. Matthew Santos In The West Wing
NBCAlthough he was introduced as a replacement for Martin Sheen's immensely popular President in Aaron Sorkin's West Wing, this President certainly matched the requirements to be a phenomenal President; He had an educational reform program as the centerpiece of his campaign, he had absolutely amazing oratory skills that allowed him to engage with the masses, and he was the underdog. He was a Hispanic candidate loosely based upon a little known Illinois Senator named Barack Obama, so perhaps it is not a surprise that he was gifted with the skills to become President. Although this entry is being judged upon his campaign promises, not his actual period as President (as this wasn't shown on screen.) He was clearly a good candidate as he had previously shown his capacity to make backroom deals in order to bring in change. We saw his period as President elect, where he was formulating a cabinet and beginning to influence policy; in this period he offered the important Secretary of State position to his Republican rival. This altruistic act ensures that Santos is seen as a clever politician and a respectable leader, both crucial elements of being a successful President.
