7 Greatest Fictional Presidents

5. President Benjamin Asher - Olympus Has Fallen

FilmDistrictFilmDistrictAaron Eckhart gives life to this president in the 2013 action bonanza. The character survives a terrorist attack on the White House, an event that would be almost catastrophic in reality. He portrays the character with incredible depth, with the first families death having a major impact on the character. Despite the attack on the White House, and the threat of imminent death, the President orders the Secretary of Defense and the Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (both holding nuclear codes) to give up these codes and save their lives, while remaining sure that he will not waver and give up his code. This plan legitimises Asher's placement on this list as it shows a determination to see as many people survive as possible, while also recognising the necessary sacrifice that the position holds; as Spider-Man has taught us, 'with great power, comes great responsibility.' We did not really see enough of this president to see how he dealt with the everyday formalities of scathing political attacks by the opposition, but if we judge him by his handling of a crisis then it is clear that Benjamin Asher deserves to be recognised as a President we would want if such a position were to be encountered.
