7 Greatest Wrestling Movies

5. Nacho Libre

nacho_desktop_sm_2Director: Jared Hess. Starring: Jack Black, Ana de la Reguera The plot of American comedy film Nacho Libre goes like this: a kind-hearted monk named Ignacio dreams of becoming a luchador (a Mexican-style wrestler) so decides to enter a local promotion in order to raise funds for an orphanage. However, he must keep his participation secret from his friends in the monastery who believe wrestling is €œungodly€. Oh, and he€™s trying to seduce a nun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0uTN8hPpP0 There€™s a lot going on in Nacho Libre, but it€™s a fun ride nonetheless. Director Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) paints a sympathetic portrait of Ignacio, who after repeated losses, is determined to become a €œbetter€ wrestler. He and tag partner Steven don€™t seem to understand why their promoter keeps paying them even though they are unsuccessful. Cute. Nacho Libre hints at kayfabe but never fully examines the behind-the-scenes elements of wrestling. However, this is one of the film€™s most endearing characteristics, and it succeeds as both an in-joke for smart fans and an underdog story for kids. Check it out if you haven€™t already.
