7 Horror Movies Connected By Easter Eggs

6. Monster Squad And Night Of The Creeps

This one is an interesting one, purely for the fact that the egg was thrown in before its connecting movie even came out. Impressive, right?

Even more so when you realise that they were both directed by the same guy, Fred Dekker, with his commitment to seeding a shared universe (or at least bragging about his next release) so early on is an excellent little nod to a filmography that had yet to be constructed. You can't say the man didn't have faith in his work.

In Night of the Creeps then, a little piece of graffiti reads 'Go Monster Squad!' across a white bathroom wall - conspicuously written and included in shot so as not to be missed whilst parasitic slugs gloop around on the floor. The writing itself was meaningless upon release in 1986, with Monster Squad not getting its full cinematic outing until a whole year later in 1987.

With the two films centring around a group of kids and a group of teenagers, it seems fair that they both could have attended the same institution at some point in time, and whacked out the red sharpie to make their presence known to anyone else wandering the stalls. In either case, it's a nifty shout out both as a pre-release sneak peek and a retrospective connection.
