7 Marvel Villains Saved By The MCU

5. Elektra

Red Skull Avengers
Netflix

Jennifer Garner's take on the character Elektra in the aforementioned 2003 Daredevil film was decent. She was a long way from great, but wasn't exactly terrible either. Elektra's 2005 solo spinoff film, however, was a very different story.

The sad thing was that you could tell Garner was trying, but Elektra's script and direction gave her absolutely nothing to work with. Even worse, it the film turned the iconic Daredevil villain/anti-hero into the one thing she should never, ever be: boring.

The film, as well as its lead, were excessively self-serious. This was contradicted by the fact that the campy on-screen action was laughably bad, which is always a recipe for disaster.

Much like the Kingpin, however, Elektra was given another opportunity to shine in Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix.

Say what you will about Marvel's multi-show Netflix arc regarding the Hand or how Elektra's arc compared to that of the Punisher in Daredevil season 2, but there is absolutely no denying that Élodie Yung was spot-on as the character of Elektra Natchios.

Everything the 2005 film got wrong about Elektra, Marvel's Daredevil got right. She was a highly-dangerous assassin, served as Devil's advocate for Matt Murdock, and unabashedly did what she wanted when she wanted.

The character even got to return to her roots as a full-on villain in The Defenders, often holding her own against Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, as well as the other members of the Hand, which is certainly no small feat.
