7 Mistakes Marvel Has Already Made With Phase Three

7. The Inhumans Would Be Better Off On TV

The Inhumans' big screen debut is the last confirmed film in Phase Three, squeaking in just after whatever carnage has been wrought by Thanos and the Infinity Stones in Infinity War Part 2. It's not unusual for a new franchise to start after the latest Avengers film - Ant-Man officially closed out Phase Two - but the Inhumans is the wrong choice. For a start they're already featuring prominently in the third season of Marvel's Agents Of SHIELD, and so to delay their transfer to the big screen by another four years seems unwise. How long can a multitude of super-powered characters running amok go unnoticed in the wider Marvel universe after all? Plus the four year gap basically means that Agents Of SHIELD is being forced to keep the Inhumans' profile up until they hit cinemas, which could prove far too restrictive for a show that was meant to explore different characters and themes within the MCU. It doesn't help that the Inhumans, essentially a secretive, close-knit team of heroes, are clearly only being set up by Marvel to act as their replacement X-Men. Unfortunately, the Inhumans lack any of the charm, ideology or allegorical nature of the uncanny mutants. In fact they're mostly just kind of there in the comics, joining in the odd fight or generally being obstructive due to the rules of their clandestine society. True, Agents Of SHIELD is broadening their appeal and characterisation somewhat, but it's hard not to think that the MCU would be best served leaving the Inhumans on TV. TV gives them multiple hours of screen time and serialised arcs where they can be more fully explored instead of just being used as a tool to try and piss on Fox's mutant chips.
