7 Mistakes Marvel Has Already Made With Phase Three
6. They Still Haven't Given Black Widow Her Solo Film
Really, do we have to say much on this one? It's amazing that in 2015 there still isn't a solo film for Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow on Marvel's whacking-great slate. True, we're been given one and a half starring vehicles for female heroes with Captain Marvel and and Ant-Man and The Wasp, but the Widow deserves better. She's been an integral part of four films now, infusing each one with sassy charm, plenty of arse-kicking and obvious hidden depths. Her past has been hinted at heavily in two Avengers films now too, what with her brutal training and all that talk of 'red in her ledger', so Marvel should have been more keen to show us just what she's been through and why her and Banner's differing world views mean that they could never be together. In fact there's a deleted scene from Age Of Ultron which hints at the divide, where Banner agonises over the deaths caused by the Hulk's rampage in Wakanda, to which Natasha replies coolly and bluntly that they're 'dead'. Apparently though it's going to be at least 2019 until we're granted a glimpse of that past and how it haunts Natasha, which is a real shame as, apart from her relationship with Clint Barton and his family, we have no real idea of how she fits into this world, how she was recruited by SHIELD and what she was up to beforehand. Johansson is a busy actor, that much is obvious, and maybe she's happy not to be tied to a full shooting schedule for her own film as well as the various other titles she's popping up in (she'll next be seen in Captain America: Civil War along with just about everybody else) but by the same token she always seems more than happy to put on the costume and get involved so only Odin knows why she wouldn't want to delve further into the character. We suspect the blame for this one probably lies at Kevin Feige's door, but it's a huge missed opportunity regardless. Who doesn't love Natasha Romanoff by now?
