2. Sam Neill As Dr Alan Grant In Jurassic Park 3
I personally adore Jurassic Park. I think it is one of the coolest movies of the 1990s- even more so when one considers that the special effects have not dated half as badly as some films half as old as it (I'm looking at you, King Kong). The Lost World was a good film that was marred by a ludicrous third act that saw a T-Rex rampaging through San Diego Godzilla style. Jurassic Park 3? Well, the less said about that the better, really... Firstly, the film seems not to worry about the whole 'scientific ethics' theme that the first two movies spent so much time investing in and just decided to make an action movie- which was kind of odd, when one considers THAT THERE WERE DINOSAURS THAT WERE NOT IN THE FIRST TWO MOVIES. Did they just...appear? What happened? Secondly the whole idea of getting Alan Grant to fly over the island rather than telling him that their son is stranded there seems like a pretty weak ruse on the part of the parents- as if Dr Grant is such a jerk he wouldn't care about their son. Neill is fine in the movie, but unfortunately he is no longer a conflicted scientist, instead the film kind of just makes him a grizzled sort of action star. A pity, because the wonder in his eyes as he sees the Triceratops in the first movie is one of the most magical scenes of the trilogy.
