7 Most Convincing Harry Potter Fan Theories

5. Harry, Ron And Hermione Got Sorted Into Gryffindor Because They Asked

This is a brief theory, but nevertheless an interesting one. One theorist suggests that the reason Harry, Ron and Hermione made it into Gryffindor is because they all asked to be there. In essence, each of the trio represents a different house: Harry is Slytherin, Ron is Hufflepuff and Hermione is Ravenclaw. We already know that the sorting hat was tempted to place Harry in Slytherin, claiming that he'd do great there. The theory continues that the only real stipulation for making it into Gryffindor is actually asking. Why's that? Because Gryffindor is a house associated with bravery, and so being bold enough to ask counts as and acts as a step towards achieving true bravery. This is backed up later on, when Harry's son Albus is concerned he might be placed in Slytherin, but Harry comforts him by claiming it's as simple as asking to be placed in Gryffindor.
€œBut if it matters to you, you'll be able to choose Gryffindor over Slytherin. The Sorting Hat takes your choice into account."
