7 Most Disappointing MCU Movies (So Far)

1. Iron Man 2

Though Age of Ultron didn't meet expectations, there's no single MCU movie which fell as short of the hype as Iron Man 2.

The third entry into the universe and released just two years after the original Iron Man, fan excitement was at a fever pitch after the success of the first film, with the marketing promising a bigger and more ambitious, universe-expanding follow-up.

And though Iron Man 2 certainly has its moments - most of them courtesy of Sam Rockwell - it thoroughly wastes Mickey Rourke as Whiplash, the action sequences are goofy and boring (especially the party fight), the dynamic between Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) and Black Widow has aged horribly, and the final battle is absurdly anti-climactic.

In retrospect it got a fairly easy ride from critics - who generally liked the film well enough - because the MCU formula hadn't yet become firmly established, but in terms of living up to its predecessor, Iron Man 2 was shockingly meh.
