7 Mouth-Watering Films Quentin Tarantino Almost Made

3. The Berlin Game

A spy movie is something the filmmaker has flirted with on more than one occasion during his esteemed career. He believes the genre ripe for directors to explore, in particular himself. Over the years he has raised the possibilities of his take on the British based series of novels by Len Deighton. In an interview during British press junkets for Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino spoke highly of his passion for making Deightonʼs spy trilogy. €œOne of the things I am musing about doing is the trilogy of Len Deighton books, 'Berlin Game,' 'Mexico Set' and 'London Match.' The story takes place in the Cold War and follows a spy name Bernard Samson. What is attractive is the really great characters and the wonderful opportunities of British and German casting." This series of books seem pretty close to Tarantinoʼs heart. Robert Forsterʼs character in Jackie Brown is shown on screen reading the book, so it proves QT has maybe been thinking about this project for a number of years. It has also been rumoured that Tarantino would favour Simon Pegg in the lead role of Samson - an actor he admires and was reportedly upset when scheduling conflicts got in the way of Pegg starring in Inglourious. It's been six years since he last mentioned the potential project, and given his feelings towards adaptations, The Berlin Game may be another Tarantino project that wonʼt see the light of day.

Martin Scorsese fanboy; Can prove in 140-characters why Michael Bay is a hack, and I enjoy a bit of Gridiron at the weekends.
