The 2018 Success: A Star Is Born

A Star Is Born was a really strong movie, and if there's any justice in the world, it would have done just fine at the box-office no matter who was starring in it. But the genius addition of Lady Gaga to the cast definitely gave the movie some added oomph.

This success proved that, with the right project, a globally-recognised star - someone with a huge fanbase, and therefore some built-in customers - can turn a hit into a mega-hit. No doubt Hollywood's biggest executives have seen how A Star Is Born performed, and are wondering if they can have a slice of that pie for themselves.

It's not a safe bet by any means, but there is a formula here that will undoubtedly be exploited again, and for Lady Gaga in particular, A Star Is Born made her an even hotter commodity than she already was. It surely won't be long before we hear about her next film project, and there's already a strong contender for what that might be.

Shortly after A Star Is Born opened, The Disinsider reported that Disney was interested in casting the singer in The Little Mermaid - their in-the-works live-action remake - possibly as Ursula. This is just a rumour, but it fits: Gaga already has a unique look about her that matches the character perfectly, and with her powerful voice, she's more than equipped to tackle the singing scenes.

Plus, in October, Disney CEO Bob Iger sent out a tweet congratulating Gaga and Cooper on the success of their film:

That's the guy who's in charge of Disney publicly tweeting his support for a rival studio's film. It's not like Iger posts tweets like this often - in fact, he doesn't tweet often at all - which means that Gaga is at least on the studio's mind, which lends credence to The Disinsider's report.

Nerdist later came forward and stated that Gaga hasn't been cast as Ursula yet, but were unable to refute the idea that talks were underway. With Disney remaking all their animated hits, The Little Mermaid will certainly come together at some point. And the studio may have just found its star.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
