7 Movies That Will Probably Happen After 2018 Successes
5. A Prince Biopic
The 2018 Success: Bohemian Rhapsody
2018 has been a great year for high-profile musical dramas. After A Star Is Born came out and performed exceptionally well, Bohemian Rhapsody came along and did even better, and currently, it's the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time (worldwide).
The fact that Freddie Mercury is still such a beloved figure meant that the movie was always going to do well (even a lukewarm critical reception couldn't bring this one down), and with audiences absolutely gobbling Bohemian Rhapsody up, there's currently an appetite for this type of nostalgia-drenched musical biopic, and the next prime candidate for this treatment is quirky pop legend Prince.
For one, there's a lot of drama the movie could explore - like that time he changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol after a dispute with his record label - and the popularity of his music speaks for itself. Earlier this year, there were even rumours that such a biopic was in the works over at Netflix, with Bruno Mars in the lead role. This report was later disputed, but the very fact that it existed has to mean that, at the very least, a conversation has been held somewhere.
The one thing that might hold this project back is the fact that Prince only died in 2016, and it might be considered too soon to make a movie about him. But with Freddie and Queen currently stomping the box-office, there's never been a better time to jump on this bandwagon.
