The Prestige hits the audience with a double whammy of twists at the end. Christian Bale's Borden pulls off his trick with the help of his identical twin, while Hugh Jackman's Angier has replicated it through Tesla-powered cloning technology.
Cinemagoers hailed Christopher Nolan's genius and swore they never saw these things coming, but the director actually presented all of this information in the movie's opening scene, in which Michael Caine's Cutter demos the disappearing bird trick.
Cutter explains how the illusion can only be pulled off by using two near-identical birds, thus laying out exactly how Borden was deceiving his audience.
Admittedly Angier's methods are only hinted at in part when Caine's character reveals the morbid truth that one of the birds must die in the name of magic, the same fate Jackman's multiple clones were condemned to. This info coupled with all those discarded top hats should have given the game away, in hindsight.
