7 Over-Looked Hints That Suicide Squad Will Be Awesome
4. Digger Harkness, AKA Captain Boomerang
Jai Courtney, continuously written off as a talent vacuum whenever given centre stage (see: Terminator Genisys, A Good Day to Die Hard), finally has a really good chance to show off the psycho chops he first casually flaunted in Jack Reacher as that film's antagonistic henchman. He's described his Squad character Captain Boomerang as a proper bogan - a sort of Australian yob - with a general proclivity for being an arseh*le. Ayer and Courtney have clearly taken what was originally a bit of a two-bit joke character in the comics and made him a credible threat. In the stills and footage seen from the film Courtney can be seen swaggering around in the background of some shots, fully absorbed by this role, looking like he's having the best time. Actors always relish the opportunity to play bad guys as they tend to be more fun, interesting and/or three-dimensional (not always in regards to the latter, but still). I think his role is going to be one of the ones to watch out for in the film; if only for those badass mutton chops. He also gets one of the best lines in the trailer; "You know what they say about the crazy ones." There's something not just about what he's saying, but the way he's saying it. This is a guy who knows he doesn't have all his dogs on one leash, and apparently enjoys that fact. Chilling stuff.
