7 Reasons Batman V Superman Should Still Leave You Optimistic For The DC Universe
2. The Exposition Is Out Of The Way
The good news for DC fans is that basically all of the wider problems with the film stem from one huge issue – and that’s story. The narrative was extraordinarily lazy, and it was riddled with unanswered questions and holes that befuddled audiences and infuriated them at the same time. This poor narrative structure, in turn, all came about because the film was providing exposition for a huge amount of projects in the pipeline, and it couldn't keep track of all the threads.
Because of short-sightedness at WB and DC, all the seeds for the future films had to be crammed into this singular title, so that the wider universe could actually kick off and get going. It has been a major tactical blunder, and audiences internationally have let WB and DC know that they messed up in rushing things. You can't just provide a whole lot of confusing exposition and then end it with a fight and hope for good things. Comic fans are smarter than that and want more from that in their films.
If you look at the upcoming production schedule, though, this shouldn't be an issue in the future (hopefully). We have individual movies, mixed with Justice League pictures, which should give people hope that the focus on a decent story and the removal of gaping plot wounds should make for a better. We have already had an introduction to all the major protagonists and themes. If there is any balance in the world at all, each upcoming film can hopefully avoid all the boring exposition and traps that exposition can bring, to focus on a payoff that audiences crave when they go to watch films like this.
