7 Reasons Hell Or High Water Is The Best Film Of 2016 (So Far)

1. The Ever Reliable Jeff Bridges

Hell Or High Water

Is there a more likeable actor in Hollywood than Jeff Bridges? Maybe Tom Hanks...but still, Bridges has so much charisma conserved in his moustache that even if the film around him is terrible he will be a guaranteed treat. He has also managed to carve himself out as one of the quintessential grizzled cowboy types and his Texas Ranger Marcus Hamilton is another masterclass.

The tired cliche of the over-ripe police officer edging ever closer to retirement suits Bridges to a tee and in his capable hands he manages to make the idea feel cosy rather than stale.

A man looking for a last hurrah but who really is not ready for the hurrahs to end at all. Bridges etches out a character who is equal parts friendly and cranky, charming yet offensive. He radiates pride like an old man showing off his war medals and you just can't resist rooting for him as he tries to track down and catch the bank robbing brothers.

Bridges' gruff hero Ranger is just one of the reasons within the cinematic delight that is Hell or High Water. But Hell, don't just take my word for it, I urge you to go and see it for yourself.
