7 Reasons Hell Or High Water Is The Best Film Of 2016 (So Far)

2. The Original Score Is Stunning

Hell or High Water has the pleasure of boasting a score by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis of the Bad Seeds and quite frankly it is stunning.

Having written songs for other modern Westerns like The Proposition, Lawless and (deep breath) The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Nick Cave gets to really shape the majority of the music here and it helps to shape the film into the modern masterpiece that it is.

Hauntingly whispering in the background, Cave and Ellis' moody, melancholic score perfectly compliments the dry and dusty depiction of this Americana. Never interfering or manipulating, as a great score should the music elevates the aforementioned quieter moments and helps to set the tone perfectly throughout.

It is sombre, serene and inspires the thought and reflection that a film of this calibre deserves.
