3. The Cult Characters Provoke More Interesting Conversations
Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are three of the most famous superheroes of all-time; although Dawn Of Justice will almost certainly show audiences these characters in a new light, these are still creations that everyone is familiar with. That's not a problem - it's just not as exciting as being faced with a bunch of less famous characters. Because - let's face it - a lot of the Suicide Squad members in the upcoming film are either unknown or terribly obscure. Captain Boomerang? El Diablo? Enchantress? These guys don't have a place in the realms of popular culture in the same way that Batman or Superman do; heck, they're so unknown to the general public that even Harley Quinn begins to look like a well-established character of the highest order in comparison. In a lot of cases, lack of character recognition would likely prevent a movie from making a killing at the box office; the sense of the unknown (and the really weird leads) would only succeed in keeping people away from the theatre. In this case, though, the obscure nature of the characters makes them all the more enticing - especially compared to well-established (and arguably worn out) characters such as Superman and Batman. The weird nature of the villain roster in Suicide Squad naturally inspires more of a discussion; the conversation, as a result, is more thrilling, as audiences are slowly teased as to the personalities, powers and predicaments of these unknown semi-villains.
