7 Reasons Why Monsters Was Actually A Terrible Film

6. Slow, Uninspired Development

For some reason a lot of filmmakers tend to confuse a slow development in the movie with "deep and meaningful." However they don't take the time to create a story or characters strong enough to make worth it those 60 minutes of absolutely nothingness. That's probably one of the biggest problems with this movie, that instead of taking its time to develop the characters with those slow moments it does nothing with them. Many of those scenes are completely pointless, since they involve either the actors sleeping or looking at things. We don't see any interaction between them or how the situation they're in affects them, those scenes are nothing but filler on a 90 minute movie. Even in those scenes in which you see a little bit of interaction between them look more like a commercial for a Nikon camera than a "clever" sci-fi movie. You could cut away all those moments from the movie and the end result would've been exactly the same. Nothing important would've been lost and the end result would've made as much sense. I'll give this movie some credit though; at least the photography of the movie was really beautiful. However the photography of the "Karate Kid" remake was also beautiful and that movie was still rubbish.
