4. The "Lesson" Of The Film Is Completely Unoriginal
Despite how boring and pointless the whole movie is apparently it has some kind of "lesson" in it, much like He-Man used to do back in the 80's. However while He-Man gave some good advice in a very original way, Monsters gives you the same boring and predictable lesson about how different things look from another perspective, and how because something is terrifying and unknown it doesn't mean it's a bad thing. We've seen this kind of lesson in many other films over a hundred times and to be honest while it's still annoying and predictable in all those films at least they made it a bit interesting by adding some good character development and an interesting story. On the other hand Monsters put the message in front of our faces and rubs it all over it from beginning to end. There' nothing wrong with making the moral of the story the same moral we've seen over a million times before, the problem comes when the director doesn't even take the time to make it at least 1% more interesting. It appears that he just wanted an excuse to make a movie with cool special effects, so he came up with a half-assed story with a half-assed moral. And while we're at it...
