7 Roles Taken By Actors For Ridiculously Awesome Reasons

6. Stanley Tucci Was Only In Captain America To Practice His German Accent

Erskine Every day€™s a school day, even to actors. Actors don€™t just suddenly rock up onto the scene with the complete package €“ they have to study their craft to get better at it. Heath Ledger couldn€™t have pulled out the stops on his Joker performance without considerable experience under his belt, Jack Nicholson could€™ve have nailed the part of Randall P. McMurphy if he wasn€™t a seasoned pro and Christoph Waltz whiled away his time on Austrian soaps before he had the requisite chops to make it huge. You€™ve always got to start somewhere, and actors take certain roles to help expand their skillset. Of course, what this usually means is they play a certain role with certain characteristics, so they can add those to their repertoire or discard them as something they can€™t do. However, this isn€™t the case if you€™re Stanley Tucci. Tucci just wanted to see if he could pull off a German accent €“ nothing more, nothing less, and chose a small film by the name of Captain America in which to practice. In a way, you€™ve got to admire his chutzpah in lining up a role in one of the biggest blockbusters of the past couple of years just so he could take a glorified acting class. Playing Dr. Erskine the film, Tucci doesn€™t have the biggest of parts €“ though he does get a few lines and gets the Captain America ball rolling €“ so it€™s a perfect opportunity for him to brush up on his accent work while slipping under the radar. Still cheeky though.
