7 Roles Taken By Actors For Ridiculously Awesome Reasons

1. Hugo Weaving Became Agent Smith To Make Tiny Versions Of Himself Fight Each Other

Smith If you€™ve read my articles before, you€™ll know that I love Hugo Weaving, simply because the man knows how to ham up a film if he wants. If you€™ve starred in Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert, anything after that will seem like child€™s play, and Weaving shows this to be true €“ he pantomimed his way through the Marvel and Matrix Universe, went full-blown hammy for Lord of the Rings and made V as British as he possibly could in V For Vendetta. What you might not know about Weaving though, is why he took the role of Agent Smith. Like most actors who signed onto the Wachowski siblings€™ epics, he was naturally intrigued about the film€™s premise, but what really sold it for him was the fact he€™d get to be immortalised as a toy. What Weaving wanted to do with these toys was so spatuclarly ridiculous that you might even worry for him €“ he wanted to make likenesses of himself fight each other. Really, I€™m not kidding. The reason Weaving played Agent Smith €“ possibly one of the most iconic villains of the last decade or so €“ was so he could stage Battle Royales filled with tiny versions of himself. This is also the reason he played Elrond in Lord of the Rings. I don€™t know whether I€™m disturbed or impressed, but frankly, if you have the ability to make it happen, why not do it? I say bravo to him, the crazy, crazy man. Can you think of any others? Please, comment below!
