7 Scenes Introducing A Superhero That Completely Nailed It
5. Batman In Batman Begins (2005)
The Batman trilogy by Christopher Nolan is generally regarded as one of the better attempts at a superhero adaptation grounded in some sort of reality. As such, Bruce Wayne's process of becoming Batman is more to do with hard graft that exposure to radiation or a spider bite. Having been trained by the Henri Ducard of the League of Shadows, Bruce returns to his native Gotham to sort out the city's rampant criminal underbelly. Here, he begins an assault on the interests of mob boss Carmine Falcone, using everything that he learnt from the League about a psychological assault on his enemies. Since Batman has no superpowers to speak of, his mythic nature in the city of Gotham is his main weapon against the various villains he finds himself pitted against, and his attack on Falcone's goons sets this up perfectly - Batman picks them off one by one as they discuss whether the Bat is real or not. If you needed any more evidence that this is the moment that the Batman becomes the Batman, he ties Falcone to a searchlight, forming a proto-Bat signal for the rest of the city's criminals to see.
