7 Tantalising Ways Anne Hathaway Made Her Catwoman Awesome

3. Hathaway Was Desperate For The Role

With franchise filmmaking as predominant in the industry as it is, it's not uncommon for actors to be contractually obliged to star in later instalments of a series against their will. While this keeps actors consistent between films, it does lead to a tendency of actors phoning it in (see Natalie Portman in Thor: The Dark World, Shia LaBeouf in Transformers, or, for a none franchise example, anything with pre-Lincoln Lawyer McConaughey). Let's just hope this fatigue doesn't wear down the Internet's darling Jennifer Lawrence; with X-Men and The Hunger Games she's currently carrying two time-intensive franchises. One case where the actor certainly wasn't just doing it for the money was Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises. If you believe what the actress says in publicity interviews she really wanted the role, which no doubt motivated her to give it her all. Warning: this next paragraph likely contains gross exaggeration on the part of the actress for dramatic effect. Tread lightly. After discovering she was indeed in the running for Catwoman (and not Harley Quinn), Hathaway was on tenterhooks about the role. So much so that when her agent rang her up to tell her about her getting the Academy Awards gig (she told this story after the Oscars that year), the actress in a fit of excitement misheard/misunderstood/didn't listen and went crazy thinking she'd got the role. It must have been quite a tough job for the agent to explain she'd only got the Oscar hosting gig.
