Much like Edward Norton, Terrence Howard -- the original Rhodey -- made his only appearance as the character in 2008 before off-screen issues caused Marvel to replace him with Don Cheadle. Nearly everything said about Ruffalo's replacement of Norton can be said here, too, as general audiences quickly took to and accepted Cheadle in the role across two Iron Man sequels and look forward to seeing him alongside the team in next year's Age of Ultron. But again, as with Norton, there's always bound to be at least a couple of people ready to let everyone know they thought "Howard was better" on every popular article related in some way to Cheadle's Rhodey or discussion of the Iron Man series. Marvel is never going to drop Cheadle to suddenly bring Howard back and, even if his version's fans got their wish and Cheadle vacated the role, Howard's much-diminished star power compared to 2008 along with his general attitude about the issue wouldn't convince either party to take a second chance. As Cheadle's Rhodey said in his first appearance, "Look, it's me. I'm here. Deal with it. Let's move on." After several years, it's still good advice.
