7 Things To Expect From Man Of Steel 2 If Matthew Vaughn Directs

4. A Breezier Tone

The defining trait of any Matthew Vaughn film is its playfulness. Stardust was a swashbuckling adventure, Kick-Ass was a colourful send-up of vigilantism and even his darker stuff, like Kingsman's church massacre, finds a way to become enjoyable - in that case, the guitar solo from Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird".

So there's no reason to assume he wouldn't bring this sensibility to Man Of Steel 2, either - as we mentioned in our introduction, Warner Bros appear to be correcting course and a tonal shift would be one way to go about doing that.

So instead of the sombre Superman movies we've been given so far, we'll likely get one that better matches the director's style - which should make for a more entertaining, well-rounded movie, one that's serious when it needs to be and lighter when it can be.

There's nothing wrong with darkness and it can absolutely work, but perhaps completely 'Nolanizing' the DCEU (and Superman) was the wrong move in the first place - and Matthew Vaughn agrees.

Speaking to MTV News in 2010 about his failed attempt at pitching a Supes movie to Warner Bros, the director said:

"I think that's the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious 'The Dark Knight' version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me."

And we should fully expect the man to follow through on his word.
