7 Things To Expect From Man Of Steel 2 If Matthew Vaughn Directs
2. A Shocking Death
Vaughn's violence also frequently possesses the shock factor. From Sebastian Shaw's coin-death in X-Men: First Class to Harry Hart's sudden demise in Kingsman: The Secret Service, his death scenes are either unexpectedly violent, or unexpected altogether.
And again, this is something you see very little of in the superhero space.
There are a handful of examples - General Zod, the aforementioned Shaw - but by and large, due to a combination of the way films are announced years in advance coupled with their need to play to the 'PG' crowd, you know everyone will make it out alive and you're not really taken aback when they don't.
This is by no means a necessary aspect of a good story, but it's something that Vaughn likes to include, and it's nearly always effective when he does.
The DCEU has been pretty safe up to this point, featuring obligatory third-act destruction scenes and the usual trademarks of an up-and-coming cinematic universe, so perhaps stepping outside the established mold in this way would bring a breath of fresh air to the franchise.
