7 Things To Expect From Man Of Steel 2 If Matthew Vaughn Directs
1. A New Beginning For Superman
Upon looking down Vaughn's filmography, one thing becomes apparent; the man doesn't like to do sequels.
He chose not to return for followups to X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass and instead prefers origin stories and reimaginings, with everything from Kick-Ass to Kingsman serving as a jumping off point for a new franchise or a fresh take on an existing one (with his X-movie serving as a soft reboot of the then-fledgling series).
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is the only sequel he's done in a directorial career that began all the way back in 2004, and that's why it's very interesting to hear that he's even in talks for Man Of Steel 2. Does this indicate that the character will receive something of a makeover?
We certainly think it does. This is the man who, from the ashes of X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, saved that particular franchise, and with Kick-Ass, gave the R-rated comic-book movie a new lease of life. Vaughn specializes in reinvigoration.
Warner Bros wanting to bring him onboard is very telling; with the reaction to Henry Cavill's Superman being the least enthusiastic of the DCEU's roster of main heroes thus far, it's clear the studio wants to change that perception of him in the eyes of moviegoers.
And Matthew Vaughn is the man who can do it.
